The hospital advocacy program at Kansas City’s Metropolitian Organization to Counter Sexual Assault trains volunteers to provide crisis management for victims of rape and sexual assault in the hospital and throughout the law enforcement process. As a volunteer, I am on-call to go to local hospitals in my region to sit with the survivors during their rape kit or sexual assault forensic exam. My purpose is to validate their feelings, safety plan, empower them, and get them informed about therapy and related services and options.

My experience as a hospital advocate taught me how to problem solve, manage crises, and thoroughly build my communication skills.
