The MECA Challenge provided great experience working with a team of six and a mentor. We got to work with a local start up called Veriquik that specializes in background checks.

Business Development Intern, FolioMatch

FolioMatch is a startup company in Kansas City, MO headed by Evan Kirsch, a fellow UMKC graduate. As an intern at FolioMatch, I manage the site’s social media accounts: Twitter and Facebook. I strategize content to promote on the social media platforms, and this includes creating some of the content myself. I blog for blog.foliomatch.com, portraying to users local events we will participate in and student entrepreneurship news. In addition, I enjoy writing about advice on how to thrive in the business world, landing jobs as a graduate, and how volunteering can help someone’s career.

Seth Godin invited about twenty students to a three-day free seminar in his office (outside of NYC) on July 30, 31 and August 1st, 2012.

The event was perfect for full-time college students who are interested in pushing themselves, connecting with others on the same journey, and perhaps for those who are looking for a chance to see how much they can learn and do in 72 hours.

Venture Creation Challenge 2013

In 2013, 68 cross-disciplinary student teams participate (of 129 teams who entered). More than 120 judges (business and community leaders, entrepreneurs, investors and mentors) participated in three stages of the competition: business plan evaluation; venture expo judging and investment; and finalist presentations.

Venture Creation Challenge 2012

Each year the Regnier Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at UMKC holds the Challenge in April. This Challenge is designed to encourage student venture creation through a forum in which students can present new venture concepts to local investors, business leaders, and entrepreneurs.
Throughout the year, UMKC students develop business plans supporting commercialization of high-growth potential technologies as well as for their own original ventures. These student teams compete in the Challenge for one or more of awards.
